[HDR-photo] Couple questions regarding merging HDRI from RAW?

I like the "linear" setting in CaptureOne, which I believe is truly linear.

Don't know if this was your question, but as far as I know, Photomatix doesn't generate HDR files directly from RAW values, but does demosaicing first. This is more of a convenience feature, and you are better off using dedicated RAW converters for best quality.

I recommend loading custom camera profiles for your SLR into lightroom, and then choosing the "Neutral" profile if it exists. I use nikons, not sure what the camera profiles are for canons but I'm sure there's an equivalent. This isn't a "linear" representation of the RAW file by any means, but IMO ideal for exporting to 16bit TIFFs for photomatix processing.

    Hi,

    Greetings to everyone.
I used to merging HDRI from JPEGs for 3D lighting. After reading a
    research poster (www.hdrsoft.com/resources/HDRIfromRAWs_posterA4.pdf),
I start exploring merging HDRI from RAW and run into some questions.

    1. So, merging from RAWs is a better approach in terms of tonal and
color reproduction, will then merging RAW directly in Photomatix be
sufficient for decoding and demosaicing to generate photometrically
    calibrated HDRI?

    2. From the FAQ
    (http://www.hdrsoft.com/support/faq_photomatix.html#process_raw), it
suggests to pre-process RAW to linear TIFF in Lightroom first before
merging. What kind of setting I should apply in Lightroom to keep the
linear data inside of RAW. Every time I import my RAW (shot from Canon
Rebel XS) in Lightroom, there are already some brightness, contrast,
curve adjustment, and other parameters applied in default. Should I
    set everything to "0"?

    Cheers,
    Jason
