Hello all!

First time posting to this group.

I have my MFA in photography and am interested in HDR photographs the blur the line between photography and drawing. Especially photographs that turn objects into living things. I love the surreal or hyper reality that HDRI can help achieve.

I created an HDR piece last year and have been having trouble recreating the effect on other images. Thought that maybe I could pick your brain and see what you think.

The photograph is called Floating Point Values and can be found at neal-robinson.com

I believe the settings I used in Photomatix were

Strength - 85
Color Saturation - 65
Luminosity - 0
Light Smoothing - Medium
Microcontrast - +1
White Point - 2.975
Black Point - 0.952
Gamma - 1.00

However I can't seem to recreate the overall feeling in other photographs that I did in the piece.
I am interested in the almost comic book style that occured - eg. the haloing and darkening

At the time I was using a Nikon D50 and shot it in the morning.

Since then I have switched to the Cannon D5 MKII

Could the trouble be because I'm not shooting in morning light or because of the switch to the Cannon?

Thanks in advance for any help on this issue.

Neal
