Hello Dave,
Yes, a plug-in enabling to generate HDR images and tone map them without
leaving Lightroom would be great. However, this won't be possible until Adobe
releases a more complete Lightroom SDK. At the moment, the Adobe Lightroom SDK
only allows to implement Export plug-ins. Here is a quote taken from Adobe
Labs website:
"This public prerelease version is being made available so that you can
explore an initial preview of the Lightroom SDK and share your feedback with
the Lightroom team. It will also enable you to create and provide Export
plug-ins to photographers working with Lightroom 1.3. The APIs available in
this release will provide a foundation to build on when a more robust SDK is
distributed in the future."
However, an Export plug-in from Lightroom to Photomatix Pro would already be
useful. We received several requests for such a plug-in and will work on it as
soon as we have released version 3.0. The export plug-in will be in the form
of a simple dialog showing an "Export" button and probably a few settings such
as the color space and file format (TIFF or linearly converted DNG).
