[HDR-photo] glow around objects

Hello,
I use photomatix to make hdr tifs I later use to make panos (ptgui,
or sometimes cs3).
It seems I get this slightly glowing outline of tonality around
anything sticking up into the sky (flag pole, tall building)...any
object primarily surrounded by
relatively continuous tone sky.
Is this a function of hdr blending settings, or ptgui blending
settings, or just the nature of hdr with photomatix???
Honestly, in most cases it looks kind of cool...like an out of view
spotlight is shining on it from all directions...it's relatively soft
and subtle...but it's not exactly right.
The issue is the breakup of the continuous tone of the sky by the
ojbject sticking up in the sky (the continuous mid-tone)
Many Thanks,
Sam
