I understand the issue of large files. My latest batch are 60 - 80 
megapixel stitches. I use 16-bit TIFF because I need it for subsequent 
post-processing. My Windows workstation has 4GB of RAM but even so 
working with files that big is painful. I certainly wouldn't do it if I 
didn't need the quality, just to avoid having to repeatedly select 
"TIFF" in the output drop-down menu. LOL!

If you don't benefit from the extra size in your QTVR work, that's fine. 
Simply one idea... :)
