Michael,
It's not so much that it's a mistake, its an extra step in the workflow
that could be removed by setting up defaults in a preferences dialog.
Computers are supposed to help us be creative, not force us to jump
through hoops. In fact I would say it was boring to have to change it
every time. (I don't think I have ever saved the file as anything other
than a TIFF)
