[HDR-photo] I'd like to buy a new camera with an eye to doing HDR
photography.

Hello, HDR photo enthusiasts.
I've been doing digital photography since 1999, using a series of
consumer-level cameras. After about 40,000 photos and a few
publications I'd like to step up to a better camera some time next
year so I'm starting to do my research now.
I've been interested in HDR photography for about a year and so being
a good platform for taking high-dynamic range photographs is an
important criterion for this new machine.
I'd like to spend less than about $2K for everything -- which would
mean a camera body, lenses (assuming this will be a DSLR, which seems
likely right now), a tripod and cases.
I'm particularly interested in trying the limits of the field --
trying very narrow or very wide bracketing exposures, or very many of
them, and experimenting with the HDR compositing software (I'm leaning
towards Photomatix). I'm an engineer so I'm quite prepared to dive
into the manuals in order to get maximum programmability.
I'm thinking that a lot of the photography will be done indoors in
low- to medium-light but I of course don't want to rule out outdoor
photography completely.
Any suggestions will be very gratefully received and I'll report back
with progress. Thanks in advance!
