Good idea on the intro's. :)
My name is Royce Howland, currently residing in Calgary, Alberta. By day
I try to help organizations do successful, innovative software
development, alternating between corporate IT and commercial product
development shops.
In my off hours, and to preserve my sanity from the day job, I spend my
time in nature photography and related pursuits. I'm relatively new to
photography having started with digital a couple of years ago, and I
consider that I've got a lot more to learn about the craft than I yet
know. :) I initially came across the concept of HDR & tone mapping in an
article at Michael Reichmann's Luminous Landscape site, and it had
appealing potential that Photoshop CS2 did not live up to. Subsequently
I found Photomatix and have been using it now for a bit over a year to
augment my landscape photography.
I'm a forum moderator at Naturescapes.net, covering the digital
photography and landscapes forums among other things. I wrote a fairly
comprehensive piece on HDR/tone mapped landscape photography for the
July 2006 edition of NSN. So far it has been relatively well received.
I've posted some of my work at NSN but do not yet have a portfolio
available on a site of my own. Several other folks at NSN are now doing
good work with HDR & tone mapping as well, mostly in the realm of
landscapes.
I'm glad to hear some others here are involved in creating new materials
covering HDR, since there surely has been a dearth of practical,
photographer-friendly info up to now. Kudos to Geraldine Joffre and any
others involved in getting this list started, as I hope it will also
become a valuable resource for folks doing serious work with HDR.
