Since I got the hang of HDR/Tonemapping for my architectural work, I've recommended it to several friends in San Diego and Atlanta who have subsequently bought the software and are performing magic with it.
Gone are the days when every shot needs additional strobe/studio lighting. And gone are the days of setting up the lights and the 4x5 just to get that one perfect dusk shot. Now you can flit around the property getting several dusk shots within that 10 minute window of perfect light and not have to worry about setting up and tearing down lighting equipment. You can now professionally shoot an entire property in 3 hours instead of 3 days. Granted, additional lighting can sure help sometimes -- especially in rooms with extreme contrast of light/dark, but a good 70% of my architectural photography is shot with strictly ambient light, exposure bracketing, HDR, and tonemapping. And, best of all, the client is awed by the results.
It's incredible. It has totally transformed the way I shoot.
As good as I'm becoming with the tonemapping, though, I could still use some professional tutorials to help me more fully understand all that Photomatix has to offer. Anything like that available?
